I also have a strong interest in business, technology, product design, and entrepreneurship. This led me to join the UK Venture Studio, where I led my team in multiple pitch competitions for my Alzheimer's/dementia app idea called, i-Remember™. We placed 5th in our first competition, and first in the second, winning $1,500.
As a designer, I enjoy conducting design research for healthcare environments and products. I like researching and interacting with users to experience and understand how they interact with a product or environment so I can design it better for them. I am good at researching, analyzing, and connecting information to create an organized system that solves a problem through a design solution.
In the future, I hope to use my knowledge and skills to improve healthcare environments.
Overall, I am passionate about helping people through the power of design, and I hope to invent many products and environments that can help improve the quality of life for others.
My name is Marissa Wilson and I have been teaching Interior Design courses at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky.
I have been a full-time faculty member since August of 2017. I received my Master's of Arts in Interior Design from the University of Kentucky in May of 2017. As a graduate student, I researched how to design environments and products to improve the quality of life for the aging population, specifically those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia (click here to view my master's project).
I also volunteered every Friday for 9 months at Best Friends, an Alzheimer's daycare, to experience and interact with those who have the disease, while working on my master's project.
In addition, I focused on Universal Design in regards to people who have cognitive disabilities. I took Psychology, Human Development, and a Theories of Learning class to have a better understanding of human behavior and cognitive development.
Although I have a degree in interior design, I have also worked as a graphic designer and artist.
